As we continue our study of 1 John the truth is The Beatles had it right in the 1960s….All you need is love.
Thus far we have learned, or relearned, some fundamental truths about our Lord.
God is pure, perfect light and we know there is no darkness in Him at all. By walking in this light we receive the power of God’s love. By walking in this light we are compelled to share this love with each other.
How do we know that we are really walking in God’s light? We keep his commandments. We love one another.
Some look elsewhere for the answer to life’s question. There are too many false teachers out in the world. John warns us the Christ is the only one who promises eternal life for all. So we are not to believe everything we hear.
In Chapter 4 John moves us to a different level of love. The love of God…that God is love. This love offers us an intimate relationship with our Lord.
The first and greatest commandment is to love the Lord our God with all our hearts and with all our minds and with all our souls. If we strive to live by this commandment, then living in the second commandment is essential and really should come naturally to us. In loving God he commands us to love people. We must love God and one another. God, through John’s gospel and letters, is really clear about this – love is the answer!
