"Alpha: Take the Jump"

I’m a little nervous. In the next week or two I’m going to invite a few people to Alpha, and it’s taking me some time to work up the courage to actually do it. I’ve been praying for these people since June, and I have seen the Lord answer my prayer for opportunities to invite them into more conversation. To take the next step, however, and invite them to Alpha…? That feels risky.

But it’s going to be worth it. I like the way Alpha is described on the back of the invitation card: “Alpha is a place to connect with other people who are open to exploring life, faith, and meaning.” I’m inviting these people to experience community, to engage in meaningful conversation, and to continue on their journey toward Jesus. I’m offering a gift, not a sales pitch.

I encourage you to take the jump with me. If you haven’t already, pick up an invitation card on Sunday. Then, go home and give it away! I also encourage you to commit to participate in Alpha. We’ll gather very Tuesday beginning September 5th through November 11th, from 7-9 pm. Even if you’ve been a follower of Jesus for a long time, your understanding of our beliefs will deepen, as will your friendships. Plus, you’ll have fun! Click here to learn a little more, and to register.

If you’d like a sample, head over to the Alpha “Watch” page and look at some of the brief videos.

Participating in Alpha, and inviting others to join you, is an important way of responding to the words Jesus has given us this year: “You are loved: Abide. Invite. Welcome.” We’ll express and experience all three and continue to live the reality of our name. Immanuel: God with us…for the sake of others.”
