Message from the Senior Warden

January 12, 2020

Confirmation Sunday

Today is Confirmation Sunday; a day we welcome to Immanuel our Bishop John Guernsey. Bishop John is the leader of the Diocese of the Mid-Atlantic (DOMA), of which Immanuel is a member.

According to our Book of Common Prayer (2019), “The Anglican Church requires a public and personal profession of the Faith from every adult believer in Jesus Christ. Confirmation or Reception by a Bishop is its liturgical expression. Confirmation is clearly grounded in Scripture: the Apostles prayed for and laid their hands on those who had already been baptized ( 2 TIMOTHY 1: 6-7; ACTS 8: 14-17; 19:6). p. 174.

Our Interim-Rector, Bishop Dave Bena, prepared a series of teaching videos for those being confirmed today. This valuable series is available on our website for those interested in further information about the confirmation process.

We extend our support and prayers for those being confirmed today:

Brian Byers, Melissa Byers, Ethan Morlu, Nathan Morlu, Lynnea Gedney, Theresa Green, Maisie Green, Becky Ragon, Nolan Ragon, Samantha Ragon, and Jenia Farrell.

We also join in our thanks to Bishop John for all his prayerful support for Immanuel during our transition process. I assure you; he has been there for us since day one of this process. His guidance during these past months has been a source of comfort and encouragement to the vestry and the search team.
