“Ready, Set, Move!”

This week, kids (and volunteers!) are having a great time at Vacation Bible School. We have been learning to follow Jesus here, there, and everywhere with these bottom lines:

· DO what Jesus says. Whose words do we listen to?

· BELIEVE who Jesus is. What do you believe about Jesus?

· LOVE who Jesus loves. What do you love?

· SHARE what Jesus did. What are some ways you can share about Jesus?

· GO where Jesus leads. Where is the coolest place you’ve been?

When we follow Jesus here, there, and everywhere, it’s not just about going to new places. It’s about showing Jesus’ love right where you are—WHEREVER you are—and wherever Jesus leads.

Our faithful volunteers are doing that this week! I am so thankful for all the amazing volunteers that have spent countless hours preparing, teaching, and loving these children. Please continue praying as we “Ready, Set, Move!

The mission for VBS is collecting school supplies for Rock the Block. Rock the Block is a back-to-school event Immanuel sponsors at King Elementary School. This is yet another opportunity to show Jesus’s love right where we are. We will distribute backpacks, school supplies, and socks, and have fun with the community. If you are available to volunteer Wednesday, August 9th, please email me mbyers@iachurch.org. This event is from 6:30pm-8:00pm.

Melissa Byers

Children’s Minister

P.S. from Father Travis: Melissa’s report above is an encouraging example how Immanuel is participating in the kingdom movement we heard about on Sunday! I also want you to be aware of the following updates:

Beginning in August, Immanuel’s new office hours are Tuesday – Friday, 9am-1pm. Monday’s are now Fr. Travis’ day off.

  • In response to the names submitted by the congregation, the Vestry has elected Mike Harpster, Angie Morlu, Andy Oravetz, and Melissa Byers (alternate) to be our delegates to the 2023 Diocesan Synod in November.

  • For those of you who missed the announcement on Sunday, we gave thanks for Tyra Harpster’s years of service, and commissioned the following people: Rhema Brown, Interim Parish Administrator; Barbara Finney, Treasurer; Lydia Schnack, Pledge Records Secretary; and Cheryl Timmons, Bookkeeper.
