Backpacks for Kids

BFK logo.png

In Prince William County, there are many children that experience food insecurity. Food insecurity is defined as “inconsistent or limited access to enough, nutritious food for an active, healthy life due to lack of money or resources”. In Prince William County, thousands of elementary school children qualify for free or reduced-price school meals. Although these children are provided meals during the week, many do not have access to sufficient food on weekends. We want to help some of these children so they don’t have to worry about where their next weekend meal is coming from by providing them with food bags.

Each Friday, 40 children from Martin Luther King Elementary School receive a bag filled with breakfast, lunch, dinner and snacks for the weekend.

How you can help make a difference in the lives of these children:

  • Bring or mail a check to the church with "Backpacks For Kids" in the memo line.

  • Food donations are always welcome. See the list below or grab a flyer by the collection box in the hallway.
