Each month, the Immanuel Vestry meets to discuss and decide on a variety of issues facing our church. Becky Ragon, our Registrar, prepares detailed minutes for each meeting. Once minutes are approved, Tyra, our Director of Parish Administration, posts a paper copy on the small bulletin board in the office. That way, everyone can read the entire record of the previous month’s vestry meeting.
To give you an idea of some of the topics we discuss, here is a brief synopsis of the August vestry meeting.
We always begin and close the meeting with prayer, and we frequently pause to pray if we encounter an issue that is difficult to discuss or resolve. We also have a devotional at the start of the meeting.
We always have a report from the Treasurer on the health of Immanuel’s finances. In August we learned that giving is on-target, but our expenditures exceed our giving.
The Vestry then hears reports from the Rector, Senior and Junior Wardens. In August, topics we discussed included follow-up on proposed reductions to the 2025 Mission and Outreach budget, follow-up on proposed edits to the Bylaws, and “Lessons Learned” from last year’s End of Year spending process.
The final topic in our August meeting centered on the Vestry’s number one priority for 2025: Hiring a Worship Leader. Becky Ragon described the plan for conducting a job search for a suitable candidate.
If you would like further details or have questions about any vestry meeting, please speak to any Vestry member. We are very grateful for your love and support for the Vestry.
Yours in Christ,
Deb Tomchek (Senior Warden)
Scott Ankers (Junior Warden)
