What We Believe

We affirm the historic Apostles Creed, Nicene Creed, and Athanasian Creed as faithful articulations of belief held by Christians since the time of Jesus and his apostles. Central to all of them is Jesus – fully God, fully man, expressing the full love of God in his bodily life, death, resurrection, and ascension. In his name alone we receive freedom from sin, bondage, death, and condemnation, and through him we receive the Spirit, participation in God’s kingdom, and eternal life in the embrace of the Father.

If you’d like to know more about what we believe, you can always make an appointment to talk with one of our clergy. Additionally, here are three resources to help you better understand the Anglican way of following Jesus.

The Apostles’ Creed

Our simplest statement of faith is one of the church’s oldest: The Apostles’ Creed, composed in the first century.

I believe in God, the Father almighty,
creator of heaven and earth;
I believe in Jesus Christ, his only Son, our Lord.
He was conceived by the power of the Holy Spirit
and born of the Virgin Mary.
He suffered under Pontius Pilate,
was crucified, died, and was buried.
He descended to the dead.
On the third day he rose again.

He ascended into heaven,
and is seated at the right hand of the Father.
He will come again to judge the living and the dead.
I believe in the Holy Spirit,
the holy catholic Church,
the communion of saints,
the forgiveness of sins
the resurrection of the body,
and the life everlasting. Amen.

The Catechism

A catechism is a statement of belief written in question and answer form. It is used by churches to teach children and those new to the faith the basic doctrines (beliefs) of Christianity. Here is the ACNA’s catechism if you’d like to explore further the theology of Anglicanism.

The ACNA

Immanuel belongs to a communion of churches called The Anglican Church of North America (ACNA). We are part of a global, historic movement that holds together three strands of the Christian Church. Learn about these strands, our history, our core beliefs, and answers to some frequently asked questions about Anglicanism by reading these helpful summaries (page appears blank when opened, scroll to activate).
