When God calls you go. So off to Bali I go in the next few months.
The learning curve is ongoing especially as I learn more about the culture in Bali. Specifically the 'work' culture. The pace in Bali is very different from the pace I keep up here.
There is no rushing around, no urgency in completing tasks, and an embracing of ancestorial knowledge and traditions.
Many of you know that the pace I keep is active. I have been a get-it-done project person. I operate on the here and now and push toward the future.
Please pray that I can set aside the ways I am used to working and embrace the work culture of Bali. Please pray that even a little step towards the goal is to be celebrated!

This week I began to study Bahasa Indonesian. The primary language is Balinese and the third language is English. There are over 700 languages spoken through Indonesia.
The language is so different from US and European languages, rooted in Latin. It takes years to become fluent in a language so my focus is on learning functional language such as greetings. There are words that we frequently use that are not part of the Balinese culture - please and thank you.
Wheaton College has a department that works with Cross Cultural Workers. I am grateful for the patience of my instructor!
In the news, the volcano erupted and caused the airport to close. Six to eight feet of ash spued from the volcano. Some villages were evacuated.
