Every Sunday, Father Travis reminds us that we are loved by the Father, the Son, and the Holy Spirit. These words bring us peace and comfort.
Although we enjoy the feelings that being loved provides, love is more an action than a feeling, Immanuel loves others as Jesus loves us. If you were involved in or touched by Vacation Bible School last week, you saw dozens of kids who learned about and felt the love of Jesus through Melissa and our volunteers. If you supported or participated in Rock the Block, Pat and Dean Tony led you to serve a community in great need of love and school supplies. If you’ve signed up to provide food for the Hilda Barg Center at the end of August, Jerry Fitzsimmons has gifted you with an opportunity to love those in need of shelter and food by acting on Jesus’s command to help the least of these. For Immanuel, love is action.
Before retiring from my job, I sometimes thought about the “100-year test.” That is, what am I doing today that will matter in 100 years? The answer was almost always “Nothing.” Yet, when we invite and teach little children to learn about Jesus, when we love our neighbors by meeting their material needs, and when we give our money and time to live out the message of Christ, we love with action. Your concrete acts of love and mercy in Jesus’s Name ripple through time and across generations. Immanuel passes the 100-year test! Praise be to God!
Thank you for hearing and responding to Jesus. You are Loved.
Your sister in Christ,
Deb
